- 3M Gloss Black Boat Wrap and PPF Protection for a Cobra RIB in Sydney
One of our recent projects involved a Cobra RIB located at D’Albora Marina, The Spit, where we carried out a detailed combination of 3M gloss black vinyl wrapping and black boat paint protection film installation. The objective of this project was to refresh sun-affected areas, remove ageing material and add long-lasting protection to high-contact zones, all while maintaining a sleek and cohesive finish that suits the bold design of the Cobra RIB. Work began with the removal of the existing wrap to ensure a clean and stable surface for the new installation. The bow section between the inflatable tubes was then re-wrapped using premium 3M gloss black vinyl. This area is constantly exposed to sun, salt and spray, so careful surface preparation and the use of marine-grade materials were essential to achieve a durable and flawless result. To further protect the vessel, black paint protection film was installed on the angled floor sections on either side near the front of the centre console. These zones are subject to regular foot traffic and abrasion from gear, making PPF the ideal solution to guard against scuffs and wear while preserving the boat’s clean appearance. Additional protection was added at the transom, where sun damage had begun to affect the finish. Black PPF was applied over the existing wrap on the top sections only, reinforcing these vulnerable areas without altering the overall look of the vessel. This approach allowed us to extend the life of the current wrap while improving resistance to UV exposure and ongoing use. The project was completed using 3M gloss black vinyl and high-quality black paint protection film, both chosen for their proven performance in marine environments. The end result is a refreshed, modern appearance combined with practical protection designed to withstand the demands of life on the water. For RIB owners, combining vinyl wrap with paint protection film is one of the most effective ways to enhance aesthetics while safeguarding high-wear areas. It offers a cost-effective alternative to repainting, improved durability and the flexibility to repair or replace sections in the future. Based in Sydney, Innovative Wraps Australia specialises in marine wrapping and PPF installations tailored to each vessel. - 100 Years of Yacht Interior Design Trends
Yacht interior design has experienced a remarkable evolution over the last century, transitioning from functional and somewhat stark cabins to highly luxurious, customised living spaces. The journey of yacht interiors is a fascinating narrative of innovation, changing lifestyles, and artistic exploration. At Innovative Wraps , we emphasise the importance of honouring both traditional elements and forward-looking design practices. Our exploration of 100 Years of Yacht Interior Design Trends will highlight key aspects such as luxury yacht styling, the variety of interior materials used in yachts and advancements in marine lighting and décor. These elements have significantly influenced the environments that define life at sea, showcasing the blend of comfort and aesthetic appeal in yacht design. The Evolution of Yacht Interior Design In the early 1900s, yacht interiors were primarily designed with durability and practicality in mind. Characteristics such as heavy timber construction, compact layouts and basic marine lighting were common. As yachting gained popularity among affluent travelers, the focus of yacht interiors began to shift towards comfort and prestige, marking the inception of luxury yacht styling. By the mid-20th century, designers began to emphasise improved space planning, lighter materials and enhanced ventilation. This period laid the groundwork for the modern yacht interiors we see today, which are designed to promote relaxation, entertainment and extended living aboard. Materials That Defined Each Era The interior materials for yachts have changed dramatically over time. Early yachts relied on solid woods and metals, while later decades introduced laminates, lightweight composites, and engineered surfaces. Today’s interiors favour sustainable timbers, high-performance vinyls, textured films and advanced finishes that balance aesthetics with marine durability. These innovations allow owners to achieve premium looks without the weight or maintenance of traditional materials. Classic vs Contemporary Yacht Interiors The contrast between classic vs contemporary yacht interiors remains a defining design conversation. Classic interiors feature rich woods, ornate detailing and warm lighting that evoke heritage and craftsmanship. Contemporary designs, on the other hand, embrace clean lines, open layouts, neutral palettes and integrated technology. Many modern yachts successfully blend both styles pairing classic textures with sleek finishes for a timeless yet forward-looking result. The Role of Marine Lighting and Décor Lighting has become a major design feature rather than a functional afterthought. Today’s marine lighting and décor enhance mood, define spaces, and highlight textures. LED systems , indirect lighting, and smart controls allow owners to adapt interiors from bright daytime living to intimate evening ambience with ease. Décor elements now focus on minimalism, custom accents and finishes that reflect personal style while standing up to the marine environment. Modern Yacht Interiors Today Today’s yacht interiors are about personalisation, comfort and efficiency. The latest yacht interior design trends prioritise open-plan living, smart technology and materials that are both luxurious and practical. Sustainability and innovation continue to shape the future of luxury yacht styling, pushing design boundaries further than ever before. Alongside interior innovation, more owners are choosing to wrap their boats instead of painting them. Modern marine wraps provide a cost-effective, lightweight, and highly customisable alternative to paint, allowing owners to refresh or completely transform their yacht’s appearance without permanent changes. Wraps also protect original surfaces , reduce downtime, and offer endless design flexibility making them a smart choice for contemporary yacht upgrades that align with evolving luxury yacht styling trends. From traditional craftsmanship to sleek, high-tech living spaces, the evolution of yacht design over the past 100 years tells a story of innovation and refinement. Whether inspired by classic elegance or contemporary minimalism, yacht interiors continue to evolve offering endless opportunities for creative expression on the water. Innovative Wraps specialises in marine and architectural vinyl wraps, serving Sydney, the Gold Coast and surrounding areas. Custom Looks with 3M Colour Flip Vinyl For standout design, 3M colour flip vinyl creates dynamic colour shifts depending on light and viewing angle. It’s a popular choice for owners wanting a unique, high-impact appearance while maintaining marine-grade durability. Textured marine finishes such as carbon fibre or brushed metal add depth and detail. These finishes are ideal for feature areas and accents, delivering a premium look with added visual interest. - Crafting NIRVANA A Custom Stainless Steel Boat Name
Boat names serve different purposes, some simply identify a vessel, while others provide a deeper characterisation. This custom stainless steel boat name was specifically created for a Maritimo 60 and installed at a boatyard in Coomera, Queensland. Its design aligns with the yacht’s strong lines and luxurious heritage. The typography chosen for the name is Franklin Gothic ATF Bold Italic, which was selected for its confident stance and clean readability. The italic form adds a sense of motion and elegance, subtly reflecting the yacht’s performance and forward momentum. The letters are fabricated from 3mm polished stainless steel, with all edges and corners fully rounded and polished to achieve a flawless, mirror-like finish. This attention to detail ensures that the sign reflects light beautifully while maintaining durability in a harsh marine environment. Behind the stainless steel face is a 30mm box with a 20mm acrylic backing, resulting in a total depth of 53mm. This construction allows for a crisp, even backlit glow while preserving a strong, substantial appearance during daylight hours. The sign is 100% waterproof and engineered specifically for marine conditions, ensuring longevity without compromising aesthetics. NIRVANA is illuminated with white 6500K LED backlighting, providing a clean, modern glow that enhances visibility without overpowering its surroundings. At night, the lighting creates a soft halo effect against the breezeway, reinforcing the yacht’s premium finish and presence. The system operates on 12V DC, making it ideal for onboard electrical integration while maintaining efficiency and safety. This project serves as a perfect example of how thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship can elevate a vessel’s identity, turning a name into a defining feature. - Full Hull Wrap & Custom Name for Catamaran Zeppelin
The catamaran Zeppelin underwent a complete exterior vinyl boat wrap in premium Gloss White, along with custom marine graphics, a bespoke boat name design, and essential hull preparation to ensure a flawless finish. This makeover not only enhanced the vessel’s visual appeal but also added long-lasting protection to the hulls an important benefit for any yacht or catamaran owner seeking durable marine-grade finishes. The focus was on refreshing the exterior of a Seawind 1050 catamaran, a popular model among sailors and yacht enthusiasts. The owner chose Gloss White for a clean, modern look that perfectly suits the vessel’s design, giving the catamaran the sharp aesthetic typically seen on premium yachts and sailing vessels. The wrap was applied from the waterline up to the rub strip, with an option to follow the curve around the windows without extending up to the non-skid. This ensured the catamaran maintained its original character while achieving a crisp, updated appearance ideal for owners looking to elevate their boat's styling without a full repaint. Since no existing vinyl needed removal, the prep work centered on sanding the hulls to eliminate flaking paint and create a smooth, even surface for the new wrap to bond to. Proper preparation is crucial in marine vinyl wrap applications, especially on older hulls, as it ensures durability, longevity and a professional finish similar to high-end yacht refinishing. To complete the transformation, the owner requested a set of custom boat decals, the vessel name, Zeppelin, produced for a classic aesthetic in Gloss Black, style to match The Yacht Social Club typography. These finishing touches elevate the wrap from a simple colour change to a personalised yacht branding solution, making Zeppelin instantly recognisable on the water. With its new Gloss White exterior, personalised bow logo and custom “Zeppelin’’ name graphics, this Seawind 1050 now stands out with a refined, modern presence on the water. Marine vinyl wrapping has become one of the most popular upgrades for catamarans, charter boats, yacht owners and sailboat owners, particularly for vessels like the Seawind 1050. For those wanting both aesthetics and function, a boat vinyl wrap is one of the most efficient upgrades available offering protection, reduced maintenance and a fresh, modern appearance. Innovative Wraps specialises in marine and architectural vinyl wraps, serving Sydney, the Gold Coast and surrounding areas. We wrap yachts, superyachts, sailboats and commercial vessels using premium marine films. Our services include interior refits with 3M and LX vinyl, the application of marine paint protection film (PPF) and branding for charter vessels . - How PPF Elevated The Maritimo M60 Interior Finish
This project centred on boosting the vessel’s interior with premium marine-grade interior Paint Protection Film (PPF) from XPEL, we installed in a glossy finish to multiple interiors for maximum shine and durability. This interior marine paint protection film installation covered three interior tables, cabinetry, the stair wall and the flybridge. With no need to remove existing decals, the process focused on a seamless, custom fit that enhances the natural look of the wood while providing long-lasting surface protection. More yacht owners are turning to interior yacht protection solutions like PPF to protect high-value wooden surfaces against everyday wear and tear. Interior Paint Protection Film acts as an invisible shield that protects against scratches from keys, rings, bags and other objects that frequently come into contact with leisure vessel interiors. By preventing these marks and spills from damaging surfaces, PPF makes maintenance easier and less time-consuming. High-quality marine PPF also offers UV protection, preventing fading and discolouration from sun exposure, which is vital for maintaining the vessel's resale value. Products from reputable brands like XPEL ensure clarity, strong adhesion and resistance to yellowing while preserving the natural finish of the wood. The cost of interior PPF varies based on the size and complexity of the area being covered. However, it often pays for itself by reducing the need for expensive refinishing and repairs. Many boat owners look for “marine Paint Protection Film installation near me” or “XPEL PPF installers in Australia” to find certified professionals who can apply the film correctly. We have the certification and expertise to meet your PPF needs at Innovative Wraps. In addition to PPF, we also offer coloured PPF and marine vinyl wrapping for both interior and exterior boat designs. Innovative Wraps specialises in marine and architectural vinyl wraps, serving Sydney, the Gold Coast and surrounding areas. - Superyacht Beluga Hull Wrap & Gloss Coating by Innovative Wraps
Beautiful "Beluga" is a 35m Moonen superyacht normally located in Port Douglas, Queensland. Down south in Brisbane at "The Yard" in Hemmant for maintenance, the Innovative Marine Coatings team performed a full vinyl wrap to the hull using custom extra long 45m rolls of 3M Gloss Storm Grey. While the vinyl hull wrap was in progress, the other part of the 13 person team was busy preparing the surface of the painted superstructure for a special high-gloss coating system designed to protect the paint and restore a deep wet-gloss look. 2 years later in 2019 the IMC crew were commissioned to do another layer on the coating as well as replace the aft sections of the wrap where some damage had occurred. We took a similar approach to surface preparation and installation on the aluminium Falcon BR6 , which also received a full vinyl wrap. The smaller vessel still required the same level of care to ensure the material settled cleanly along the hull.
- Cruisers 455 Hull Wrap at Bobbin Head by Innovative Wraps
Originally, Mike from Mike Gaffikin Marine http://www.mgmarine.com.au/contact/) contacted Innovative Marine Coatings about a boat that was selling to a Queensland based buyer. Mike conveyed that the new owner was keen on the boat, but was interested in wrapping the hull to hide the faded blue gelcoat on the hull. IMC coordinated with the customer who chose the 3M marine vinyl colour, Gloss Charcoal Metallic G211 and the vinyl was ordered. Thankfully, the excellent facilities at Empire Marina in Bobbin Head (https://www.empiremarinas.com.au) meant that the boat was placed in the shed, so despite the rain the weekend vinyl wrap could proceed. The pictures speak for themselves, it looks new! A larger-scale project with similar preparation and finishing requirements was the work carried out on Beluga , where the team completed a full hull wrap and applied a gloss coating system to the superstructure. The yacht was positioned in a suitable facility, which helped maintain the consistency of the finish.
- Custom Sail Graphics Printing by Innovative Wraps
We were honoured to be part of the team who delivered branding solutions for the hulls and sails of the WASZP boats competing in the SAILGP events. If you haven't seen a WASZP yet, check these cool little foiling speed machines out at WASZP and more photos of the Sydney series here. In collaboration with the WASZP installer, we figured out the correct 3M material to print on and using our Mimaki printer with Ultraviolet cured inks, we printed up all the sail and hull artwork for the boat with country flags along with extras for spares. See more of the completed hull and sail decals at the Sydney event video below Another print-focused project was the Princess 65 in Sydney , where we produced custom artwork and applied it across the hull. The job involved colour matching, accurate alignment, and the same attention to detail used in our sail graphics work.

- Why boat owners are switching from paint to vinyl finishes
When comparing a boat wrap vs paint, many people assume that as a boat vinyl wrapping company, we’ll always favour wraps. But that’s not the case. Both approaches have their place in modern boat restoration methods and understanding why someone is considering a wrap usually reveals which method is best. Most reasons fall into a few common categories: Aesthetic Upgrades – Many boat owners simply want a fresh, modern look or a way to breathe life back into a faded gel coat. Added Protection – One of the major advantages of vinyl wrap is the protective barrier it provides against UV exposure, salt and environmental wear sometimes even matching the boat’s original colour for a seamless look. Easier Maintenance – When gel coat becomes chalky or oxidised, wrapping becomes an appealing marine paint alternative. A vinyl finish often requires less upkeep and stays looking sharp with minimal effort. Concealing Imperfections – Wraps are great for covering flaws like small cracks or those frustrating bubbles that form around window borders. These factors highlight why both vinyl wrapping and spray painting have a place in modern boat care and why the best choice depends on your boat, your goals and your style. 'Pros' of vinyl wrapping 1. Cost efficiency - A significant advantage is cost. In many cases, especially with faded gel coats on larger vessels, the cost comparison, wrap vs paint strongly favours wrapping. Because the process is faster and often doesn’t require a specialised marine paint shed, wrapping can cost as little as one-third of a professional paint job. 2. Fast - As mentioned above, speed can be useful. Often we can wrap a boat in 2 days that would take 2 weeks or more to prep and paint. These times can vary wildly due to many factors of course, but whether it is getting a problem fixed as soon as possible in time for a charter or other pressing needs, wrapping can be a 'quick fix'. 3. Making the 'impossible' possible. Yes, everything is possible, but for a complete colour change of the interior of a vessel for example, completely ripping out all the furnishings and having them remade in a different colour or wood would be so expensive it would be out of the question. Vinyl wrapping the interior of a vessel can make this impossibility into a realised dream. 4. Options - Some textures and finishes are very unique to vinyl and are hard to accomplish with paint. Of course, printed vinyl wraps as an example are comparatively very easy to accomplish with vinyl, but would need a very skilled air-brush artist to accomplish with paint. 'Cons' of vinyl wrapping 1. Damage - Let's come straight to the point, vinyl wrapping is not as hard wearing, or long lasting, as a high-quality two-pack marine paint that is professionally and correctly applied. By nature, the vinyl is softer, so more prone to damage. On the plus side, this damage can often be easier and quicker to repair than having to blow in a section of paint for repair. 2. Longevity - As mentioned above, vinyl won't last as long as a good paint job, especially on horizontal surfaces like a T-top or roof. This can be influenced by how well it is kept clean and what products are used to help it, just like neglected paint will also fail prematurely, but as a rule of thumb vinyl will not last as long. 'Pros' of painting 1. Details - Painting can be great for detailed items that would not be suitable for wrapping, like air vents or other detailed items. Also, wrapping is not suitable for decks, so they are better off painted. Some surfaces won't allow vinyl to stick well due to surface condition or texture, so they are better off being painted. 2. Longevity - As mentioned, vinyl is not as 'tough' against physical damage or direct and constant sun exposure as paint is. 'Cons' of paint 1. Cost - This is probably a leading reason people, having understood the pros and cons, often choose a vinyl wrap with us. The process to prepare for a professional paint job and the facilities required are detailed and expensive, especially in Sydney. 2. Time - This is easily the second most important reason that people get us to wrap things, even on large vessels where cost is not so much of a problem, but rather a vinyl wrap is a quick fix that can be accomplished in a short turnaround to get the vessel looking good for a charter or event. 3. Limitation - As mentioned above, custom designs or detailed images on the boat may be difficult to do with paint, very difficult, especially with the precision and detail that a printer can easily do. 4. Repairs can be more costly sometimes, as there may be a need to repaint a larger area to keep the appearance visually consistent. Final Thoughts - Repaint vs Rewrap Your Yacht? - How to Measure Your Boat
Preparing your boat for a vinyl exterior wrap starts with one essential step, accurate measurements. Whether you’re planning a full hull wrap , a waterline accent or a custom-designed graphic , precise sizing helps ensure a perfect fit and an efficient installation. This guide explains how to measure a boat for a wrap , including a hull measurement guide. Hull Measurement Guide The hull is the largest area of your boat and the section that requires the most accuracy. When measuring your hull, focus on: Overall length from bow to stern Height from the waterline to the top edge of the hull Curves and contours, especially along the bow and chine lines Obstacles such as cleats, rails, vents or steps Boat Length and Beam Measurement Two of the most important dimensions in marine design are boat length and beam measurement. Length overall (LOA): Measure the maximum length of the boat, including any extensions on the hull. Beam: Measure the widest point of the boat, usually midship. These measurements help determine the scale of the wrap and the amount of material required. They are also essential for accurate CAD modelling and template creation. Wrap template preparation begins once measurements are collected, using hand measurements, physical templates, digital tools or manufacturer specs to map artwork, check alignment and ensure precise cut lines. Whether you’re measuring at home or booking a professional scan, accurate sizing is the key to a successful boat wrap . Furthermore to estimate the amount of material needed, installers may use a vinyl coverage calculator. But don’t worry you don’t need to measure anything yourself when booking with us. At Innovative Wraps, we handle the entire process using advanced tools ranging from manual measurements to digital hull scanning and marine CAD design to create perfect templates for luxury-quality vinyl wraps.
