- Wrapping Your Jet Ski, Tender or RIB to Match Your Yacht
There’s nothing quite like arriving at a marina with every detail perfectly arranged your yacht gleaming and your tender perfectly matched. Boat wraps have become one of the most effective ways to enhance the overall appearance of an entire setup. At Innovative Wraps, we’ve seen a growing number of yacht owners investing in vinyl wrapping for yachts and tenders to create a seamless, high-end aesthetic across all their watercraft. From refined custom jet ski graphics to complete tender transformations, wrapping offers a flexible, premium alternative to paint . That said, understanding what’s possible particularly with RIBs is essential to achieving the right result. Why Yacht Owners Are Choosing Boat Wraps Wrapping your jet ski, tender or RIB delivers far more than visual appeal. High-quality marine vinyl design allows owners to align tenders and toys with the main vessel through considered yacht branding wrap solutions and cohesive colour palettes. Beyond aesthetics, wraps protect paint and gelcoat from UV exposure, salt, abrasion and everyday wear. With access to luxury boat wrap finishes such as matte, satin, gloss, carbon fibre and bespoke textures, wrapping also provides a reversible option that allows a vessel’s look to evolve over time. Precise custom colour matching for boats ensures tenders and jet skis feel purpose-built for the yacht they support. Understanding the Limitations Rigid Inflatable Boats, or RIBs, require a more tailored approach and this is where experience becomes critical. In most cases, RIBs cannot be fully wrapped because the inflatable tubes are not suitable for vinyl. Their flexibility, textured surfaces and constant inflation make wrapping impractical and unreliable. Understanding these limitations upfront is essential to achieving a durable and professional result. What Can Be Wrapped on a RIB While full coverage is rarely possible, many parts of a RIB can still be wrapped depending on its construction. The rigid hull, console and helm areas, interior panels, deck sections, transoms and other structural components are often suitable for marine vinyl applications. In rare cases, we have wrapped “tubes” only when they were non-inflatable, such as aluminium tube designs. These projects demonstrate how thoughtful assessment and material knowledge can still deliver standout results and inspire practical superyacht tender wrap ideas, even when working within limitations. Every RIB is different, and understanding the materials and build quality is essential to achieving a long-lasting, premium finish. At Innovative Wraps, we never take a one-size-fits-all approach. Every jet ski, tender and RIB is carefully assessed so we can recommend the best solution for durability, aesthetics and long-term value. We are always transparent about what can and cannot be wrapped, which surfaces are suitable for marine vinyl, and how to achieve the best possible outcome for each vessel. - A Practical Guide to NSW Boat Registration Numbers and Compliance
One of the most common questions we’re asked at Innovative Wraps relates to boat registration numbers that don’t meet Transport for NSW requirements, especially when new vinyl wraps, colours or custom styles are involved. While updating the look of your vessel is exciting, registration numbers must still comply with strict visibility and sizing rules. This guide breaks down what’s required so you can stay legal on the water without sacrificing presentation. Displaying Registration Numbers Correctly In NSW, all registered vessels must display their registration numbers clearly and at all times. The numbers must be positioned on both sides of the hull or, in the case of sailing vessels, on the transom. They must also sit well above the normal waterline so they remain visible regardless of conditions. Size and Proportion Requirements The size of registration numbers depends on the type of vessel. Powerboats require letters and numbers to be at least 150 millimetres high, while sailing vessels and personal watercraft must display characters no smaller than 100 millimetres. Importantly, all characters must be uniform in height. Reducing the size of the “N” or adjusting proportions for design reasons may look appealing, but it does not meet compliance standards. Font, Style and Legibility Transport for NSW regulations prioritise clarity and legibility. Registration numbers must be solid lettering rather than outline-only fonts, displayed in uppercase and easily readable at a distance. Decorative, script or overly stylised fonts are not permitted and only letters and numerals may be used. These rules exist to ensure easy identification and enforcement, not just visual consistency. Colour and Contrast Rules Contrast is critical when it comes to compliance. Registration numbers must stand out clearly against the hull surface, whether the vessel is painted , gelcoated or wrapped in vinyl . Light-coloured numbers such as white or silver work best on dark hulls, while black or navy provides strong contrast on lighter finishes. This requirement applies equally to traditional paint and modern vinyl wraps. Other Required Identification In addition to registration numbers, NSW regulations require a permanently affixed Hull Identification Number or Boatcode, a safety label on powered vessels showing capacity information, and a PWC behaviour label on personal watercraft. If you’re considering personalised registration numbers, these can be applied for through Service NSW, provided they meet approval criteria. A Final Word on Compliance and Design Correctly displaying your boat’s registration number isn’t just about meeting legal requirements, it’s about safety, visibility and professionalism on the water. If you’re unsure whether your current setup complies, or if you’re planning a wrap or repaint, we’re happy to advise on sizing, placement and design solutions that keep your vessel compliant and looking sharp. If you’re looking for custom, compliant registration numbers designed and installed to suit your boat, contact us . We’ll ensure your vessel meets NSW regulations while maintaining a premium finish. Why Do Boat Owners Wrap Their Boats? MODERNISE Many owners choose a wrap to refresh the appearance of an older vessel or give a new boat a custom finish. Choose a colour and finish that matches your personality or brand identity. EASY REPAIR Repairs for vinyl boat wraps can be incredibly easy. Film patches make repairs quick and simple, rather than an expensive respray, or a whole side can be quickly replaced. EASY MAINTENANCE Vinyl boat wraps are easy to care for and maintain. A regular pH neutral boat wash is suitable. Cut and polish is not necessary, but wax can increase life of the vinyl. HARD STAND SAVINGS Marine vinyl boat wraps are amazingly fast compared with painting. Generally, a 40ft can be done in 1–2 days. COST SAVINGS A vinyl boat wrap is generally 33% the cost of a professional respray of a large boat. TEXTURE OPTIONS Many finishes including gloss, matte, satin, carbon fibre, brushed metal, woodgrain, and non-skid. Frequently asked questions 1. WHAT HAPPENS IF I DAMAGE IT? Our number one question, and a good one. It can be patched, and it is pretty easy to do. If you don't feel like doing it though, we can. 2. HOW EASY IS IT TO DAMAGE? Hard to describe, but it is a little easier to damage than gelcoat. Treat it like a new paint job. Use fenders, use fender covers, and it will be more than fine. Hitting the wharf isn't good for any kind of finish. 3. HOW LONG WILL IT LAST? We generally use 3M film, which has a durability when vertical of up to 7-8 years. We suggest to work on around 5 years durability for a normal hull wrap. If you are wrapping horizontal sections like the cabin, this is reduced. Speak to us to discuss your situation and what climate the boat will live in. 25 Wrap Ideas That’ll Turn Heads at the Marina Looking to stand out on the water?
