Crafting NIRVANA A Custom Stainless Steel Boat Name

Boat names serve different purposes, some simply identify a vessel, while others provide a deeper characterisation. This custom stainless steel boat name was specifically created for a Maritimo 60 and installed at a boatyard in Coomera, Queensland. Its design aligns with the yacht’s strong lines and luxurious heritage. The typography chosen for the name is Franklin Gothic ATF Bold Italic, which was selected for its confident stance and clean readability. The italic form adds a sense of motion and elegance, subtly reflecting the yacht’s performance and forward momentum.

The letters are fabricated from 3mm polished stainless steel, with all edges and corners fully rounded and polished to achieve a flawless, mirror-like finish. This attention to detail ensures that the sign reflects light beautifully while maintaining durability in a harsh marine environment.

Behind the stainless steel face is a 30mm box with a 20mm acrylic backing, resulting in a total depth of 53mm. This construction allows for a crisp, even backlit glow while preserving a strong, substantial appearance during daylight hours.

The sign is 100% waterproof and engineered specifically for marine conditions, ensuring longevity without compromising aesthetics. NIRVANA is illuminated with white 6500K LED backlighting, providing a clean, modern glow that enhances visibility without overpowering its surroundings. At night, the lighting creates a soft halo effect against the breezeway, reinforcing the yacht’s premium finish and presence. The system operates on 12V DC, making it ideal for onboard electrical integration while maintaining efficiency and safety. This project serves as a perfect example of how thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship can elevate a vessel’s identity, turning a name into a defining feature.
