3M Gloss Black Boat Wrap and PPF Protection for a Cobra RIB in Sydney

One of our recent projects involved a Cobra RIB located at D’Albora Marina, The Spit, where we carried out a detailed combination of 3M gloss black vinyl wrapping and black boat paint protection film installation.

The objective of this project was to refresh sun-affected areas, remove ageing material and add long-lasting protection to high-contact zones, all while maintaining a sleek and cohesive finish that suits the bold design of the Cobra RIB. Work began with the removal of the existing wrap to ensure a clean and stable surface for the new installation. The bow section between the inflatable tubes was then re-wrapped using premium 3M gloss black vinyl. This area is constantly exposed to sun, salt and spray, so careful surface preparation and the use of marine-grade materials were essential to achieve a durable and flawless result.

To further protect the vessel, black paint protection film was installed on the angled floor sections on either side near the front of the centre console. These zones are subject to regular foot traffic and abrasion from gear, making PPF the ideal solution to guard against scuffs and wear while preserving the boat’s clean appearance.

Additional protection was added at the transom, where sun damage had begun to affect the finish. Black PPF was applied over the existing wrap on the top sections only, reinforcing these vulnerable areas without altering the overall look of the vessel. This approach allowed us to extend the life of the current wrap while improving resistance to UV exposure and ongoing use.

The project was completed using 3M gloss black vinyl and high-quality black paint protection film, both chosen for their proven performance in marine environments. The end result is a refreshed, modern appearance combined with practical protection designed to withstand the demands of life on the water.
