Exterior Vinyl Branding on Starship Sydney For The AIB Event Takeover

The vision for this project centred on elevating the presence of AIB (Australian Institute of Business) through large-scale branding that works with the sleek, modern profile of the vessel. Rather than relying on subtle signage, the approach embraced scale and visibility, ensuring the brand could be seen across the harbour, along the wharf and from surrounding vantage points. The application spans an impressive three metres in height and 23 metres in length on each side of the Starship Sydney, turning the vessel into a striking visual centrepiece.

Unlike a static building, a vessel interacts constantly with light, water reflections and changing perspectives. The artwork needed to be carefully prepared to maintain clarity and consistency at this scale, particularly as viewers would encounter it from different distances and angles. The AIB graphic elements were designed so that arrows point toward the front of the vessel and ensuring the branding reads naturally as the boat moves through the water.

Working in a waterfront environment introduces variables such as wind, moisture and restricted access, all of which must be managed without compromising quality. Because there was no need to remove existing decals, the focus remained firmly on precise placement and achieving a flawless finish across both sides of the vessel within a tight timeframe.

The scale of the branding ensured it stood out both on the water and from the shore, turning the vessel into more than just a venue. It became an extension of the brand experience, delivering a strong visual impact and leaving a lasting impression on attendees. Following the event, removal of the decal was planned for the next day, subject to confirmation with the vessel operators. This short-term application highlights the flexibility of vinyl branding for event-based activations, allowing brands to achieve maximum exposure without long-term commitment.
